Why do we cry our Imaam Husain AS?
The objective of Ashara Mubaarakah can be summed up in the words of Syedna Al Moayyad Al Shirazi (RA):
« Azhirun Nauh Wal Aw eel... » (Make apparent your tears and lament).
All wounds heal with time, for every hardship there is solace to be found, yet the Bukaa on Imam Husain AS has no solace, the tears know no end. The remembrance of Karbala comes back with renewed intensity every year, every 10th of Moharram al Haraam.
Syedna al-Qadi al-Noman RA elucidates that imaan consists of three parts:
Articulating with the tongue, believing from the heart, and execution by the limbs. Le Shahaadat de Imaam Husain's Shahaadat redeemed Islaam and Imaan; his Shahaadat is the heart of Islaam and Imaan.
Imaam Husain's AS gham is felt by the heart, but that is not enough. It needs to be manifested through tears, maatam and the call of "Ya Husain Ya Husain!".
Al-Daai al-Ajal Sayedna Mohammad Burhanuddin RA says in his elegy, "I cry upon you, my Maula Husain; I sacrifice my soul for you O Maula Husain."
Sayedna al-Muqaddas RA's manifestation of grief, sorrow and lament was such that he recited the Shahaadat of Imaam Husain time after time after time, and stirred the grief of Imaam Husain in the hearts of thousands of Mumineen to such an extent that on a single 'Aah!' from his lips they would break into intense Maatam and tears.
Sayedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS is, today, furthering this grief and lament by mandating that each and every mumin attend Ashara Mubarakah waaz from the very first day, so that not a single Mumin is deprived of the barakaat of Imaam Husain AS.
Aaqa Maula TUS has given us ample time to prepare and plan, to take leave from our bosses or principals and to make necessary arrangements to attend Ashara Waaz.
So, We must be prepared for that!
